Walk-in candidates may be accepted at the discretion of the testing center, if space is available; scheduled applicants will receive priority when testing. Unscheduled applicants (walk-ins) must have completed an online application prior to arrival or may complete an online application, in a Department of Personnel office, prior to the beginning of the testing session; allow at least 20 minutes.

DMV+ Job Testing Opportunities

The Secretary of State wants to make it easier for you to be considered for employment with the Office. Testing for certain titles, that require an applicant to take and pass a written, multiple-choice test, may be available in DMV+ facilities. The Office will offer job testing opportunities at the DMV facilities listed below. We hope that offering testing at these locations, as well as the Secretary of State Personnel Offices in Chicago and Springfield, will make it easier for people who want to work for our Office.

Overview:

Performs journeyman electrical work; constructs, installs, alters, maintains, and repairs electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Installs and maintains electrical systems which operate on alternating or direct current circuits and high voltage lines, generators, and appliances through panels, switches, meters, and circuit breakers.
Repairs and maintains electric switchboards, panels, appliances, air conditioners, public address systems, and other apparatus utilizing electricity or its effects.
Dresses and polishes commutators; seats and replaces brushes; replaces coils and armatures; performs similar work in repairing and replacing parts.
Converts motors and similar appliances to correct current rating.
Install CRT and TV cables.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Education and Experience:

Requires successful completion of a union sponsored apprenticeship training program to qualify as a journeyman electrician.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Requires ability to earn and maintain certification in Asbestos Operations and Maintenance (O&M) training as mandated by OSHA and EPA regulations.
Requires ability to read, interpret and work from drawings or sketches.
Requires ability to perform all tasks usually associated with journeyman electricians.
Requires ability to instruct and direct unskilled workers.
Requires ability to inspect and perceive unsafe or faulty conditions in production, transmission, and utilization of electricity.
Requires skill in the use of tools of the trade.
Requires willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license as required by individual positions within the class.
Requires heavy lifting, up to 100 pounds, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds.
