Multiple-Choice Tested Titles with Keyboarding Assessment:

Walk-in candidates may be accepted at the discretion of the testing center, if space is available; scheduled applicants will receive priority when testing. Unscheduled applicants (walk-ins) must have completed an online application prior to arrival or may complete an online application, in a Department of Personnel office, prior to the beginning of the testing session; allow at least 20 minutes.
Community Job Testing Opportunities
The Secretary of State wants to make it easier for you to be considered for employment at your nearby DMV locations. Certain public service positions in these facilities require an applicant to take and pass a written, multiple-choice test. The Office will offer job testing opportunities at select DMV facilities and certain public libraries throughout the state according to the following schedules. We hope that offering testing at public libraries in a variety of locations, as well as the Secretary of State Personnel Offices in Chicago and Springfield, will make it easier for people who want to work for our Office.

Job Title: Database Specialist DB2/SQL Division: Data Center Services (ISS I) Union: IFT Location: 501 S Second St, Springfield, IL – Sangamon County (On-Site)
Salary: Starting at$5,483.00 monthly, commensurate with experience
Overview:
Under general direction, the successor in this role will manage, maintain, and secure the Office's database systems; oversee database design, implementation, and troubleshooting, ensuring optimal performance and data integrity; enhance the efficiency and security of the database infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain database systems for optimal performance and reliability.
Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.
Ensure database security (working closely with the data security team), backup, and recovery plans are in place and effective.
Collaborate with IT teams to integrate databases with other software applications. Provide technical expertise and support in database design, development, and management.
Analyze and report on database performance and suggest improvements.
Completes necessary education, training, and certifications to stay abreast of latest technologies effecting Illinois Secretary of State information security.
Travels as necessary for education and meetings.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Required Specific Skills:
Proficient in database administration, management, or a related field.
Working scholarship of database languages like SQL, and experience with database management software.
Functioning knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
Know-how with cloud-based database services.
Experience with data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL.
Requires experience in a government or public sector IT environment.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Advanced database certifications (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL).
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with various IT teams.
Willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license as required by individual positions within the class.
Ability to lift/carry, push/pull 0 – 50 lbs.
Required Education and Work Experience:
Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, with coursework in the computer science field.
Two and a-half (2.5) years of technical systems and programming experience as would be gained as an Information Systems Technician or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
